For those of you with an early version of the Lakes book, here’s an extra location added later on.
Hidden away in a small ravine at Wasdale Head is the delightful Ritson’s Force (named after the 19th century landlord of the Wasdale Head Inn). There are a series of small falls with one larger cascading fall at the bottom, giving you plenty of different compositions to explore. It’s best on an overcast day and is good at any time of year. Wellies are handy to get into a good position at the lower falls, but you can shoot from the riverbank.
» How to get there
Go all the way to the top of Wastwater and park in the car park at Wasdale Head where the road forks (free). Walk up the road to the pub and follow the signs for the bar. Go past the bar and turn right, then turn left over the packhorse bridge. Follow the path up the lane and field until you come to a gate in the wall by the small plantation. Go through the gate and down to the waterfalls.
